What Kind Of Beans Never Grow In A Garden?…….Jelly Beans!
Well, Trump again with his ignorance and big mouth has stirred the pot over the smoke from our forest fires saying that they are from our poor attempt at mitigation and fire suppression and therefore should be punished with increasing tariffs. I seem to recall eating the smoke and ashes that affected us a few years back from fires in the USA.
I noticed his lack of sympathy for the Canadian pilot that was killed recently fighting fires for them but of course that does not suit his whining agenda. On US senator said Trump was off his rocker which I think is way too polite.
Perhaps we can retaliate in some way with fines regarding the ticks that are migrating to Canada from the USA. I guess even they want out. These ticks are traveling at a rate of 50 kilometres a year and are causing significant problems. There are 40 different types of tick and some of the diseases they cause have no cures. Research is being done on cures and vaccines and essential oil deterrents, however I think that the USofA should be penalized heavily for their neglect and indifference to their tick issues and it should start at the top with the biggest tick.
Speaking of fires BC has jumped considerably in the amount of fires burning. We had 60 start in one day due to lightning strikes and now Kimberly is on evacuation notice.
With more lightning in the forecast we should take precautions to our personal safety during these events. Stay off lakes and open areas as fishing and camping are two of the main places that humans are killed or injured. Amazingly the breakdown of people who are struck 80 percent are males and 20 percent females. Explain that one.
A few days ago a very rare synchronized double blooming of Corpse Flowers occurred at at a botanical gardens in San Marino California. Thousands lined up to see and smell the bloom which once the plant is established takes 7 to 10 years and will appear for a short span of 24 to 48 hours. After its initial bloom it will repeat this process every 3 to 5 years . The Corpse Flower is native to Indonesian rainforests in Sumatra and with only 1000 left is considered a rare and endangered species mostly due to deforestation.
It grows from a corm beneath the soil and grows to produce a tall singe leaf branched like a tree. In 7 to 10 years it will produce a large flower that although stunning to look at smells like a combination of dead meat, garlic and stinky feet. This attracts carrion eating insects which pollinate the flower. This results in it producing red, marble sized berries that are eaten by tropical birds that then disperse the seed. It is poisonous to humans as it is covered with needle like crystals which will cause rashes and skin irritation and intestinal issues that could be deadly.
If one is really determined to grow this flower one can find the plant or seeds from some rare seed dispensaries. It is difficult to grow and even more so the germinate so one must be determined and follow growing directions to the letter.
