Volunteers Make Our Community Better

We are celebrating Volunteers during Volunteer Week April 27th – May 3rd

“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give” – Winston Churchill

Whitevalley Community Resource Centre would like to recognize and celebrate volunteers in our community and surrounding areas. Volunteers are everyday people that see a need and strive to make a positive impact. Many of the programs offered at Whitevalley Community Resource Centre would not be possible without the generosity of volunteers giving their time and energy to better the community.

National Volunteer Week was first implemented in Canada in 1943, to show gratitude for Women donating their time on the home front during the World War II. Recent statistic estimated that there is over 24 million Canadians volunteer, and contributing 2.5 billon hours. Not only does volunteering benefit community organizations but studies have shown that volunteering can also benefit the volunteers physically and psychologically.

Other benefits can include:

  • Improves levels of happiness.
  • Increases life experience, learn new skills and increase professional experiences.
  • Connection with others and make new friendships.
  • Builds sense of community and purpose.
  • Volunteering can be FUN!

Our wonderful, local volunteers come from different backgrounds and range from all ages and abilities. The one thing they all have in common is the desire to donate their time, share their talents and promote social inclusion.

Whitevalley Community Resource Centre would like to say a huge, “THANK YOU” to each and every volunteer that supports business, charities, non-profit agencies and fellow residents by contributing their time and energy. The role a volunteer plays is essential to many and continually assists in creating a successful community spirit.

Whitevalley is currently looking for Volunteer Drivers and Trishaw Pilots to join our Volunteer Team; as well as other positions. If you are interested in learning more please reach out to Sarah at 250-547-8866 or sarahh@whitevalley.ca
