U11 Development Team Win Silver Medal

Our Lumby Stars U11 Development team showcased remarkable spirit and teamwork in the recent tournament held in Kamloops March 22-24. The selection process, which took place in February by LMHA, culminated in a harmonious blend of players from Team Garratt and Team Turnbull. Under the guidance of Head Coach Eric Hanson, Assistant Coaches Brad Baines and Chris Church, and Manager Jennifer Clarke, the team underwent several practice sessions to build synergy.

The tournament commenced with a narrow 2-1 loss against Vernon’s U11 Dev team, but our team quickly rebounded with an 8-2 victory over 100 Mile House. The momentum continued as we secured wins of 4-2 and 7-2 against Kamloops teams, earning us second place in round-robin play. A rematch with Kamloops 1 saw Lumby triumph with a 5-2 win, leading to a gold medal face-off against Vernon. The final was a nail-biter, with goals from Landon Lavallee and Nixon Matchett, and a crucial shot from Oliver Baines. Despite Vernon’s late equalizer forcing overtime, the shootout saw Landon Lavallee score, although Vernon ultimately clinched victory. It was an edge-of-the-seat experience that made us all immensely proud of our young athletes.
