Surfing USA

Welcome to Colleen’s Corner. This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road  or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc.  l have lived in Lumby over 8 years you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer:  The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.

As I feel the days get colder and watch the snow fall to the ground, I can’t help but think of this time last year when we were in Carmel, in Monterey County California, what a quaint pretty little town. You could park at one end of the street and walk around the whole town. The shops are all lined up neatly beside each other with pathways that take you to another area of more little shops all sitting on cobblestone walkways. Each little shop is unique, all with a crisp clean look. A great place for tourist. The people were friendly, always with a smile for you.

After going into so many cool shops we got hungry and decided on a place to eat. The Chinese food restaurant where we ate our lunch was amazing.

After lunch we took a tour to the beach, wow, this was totally different then the little town. The town was quiet and peaceful very low key, obviously meant for tourism. Then we headed to one of the beaches. With over 17 miles of the coastline, you know there must be some great beaches, although not all of them are good beaches for everyone.

The beach we found well that’s a different story. It was very busy with people of all ages having a surfboard near them or in the water watching for the wave that can go from 2- 7 feet high. We did not go surfing or even have a surfboard near us, but what an amazing sight it was to watch as young and old went into the water waiting for the great wave to come and take them away.

I couldn’t help but have the Beach Boys song play through my head as I watched the amazing sight taking place before my eyes with my sunglasses on of course; Everybody’s going surfing, surfing USA. I know the song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day now as it is in mine, but I am sure it will make you feel good, and if you really want to think about the song, play it and put on your sunglasses and just imagine yourself there!

When on you are on your travels and if you have never been there, I highly recommend going to Carmel California check out the quaint little shops, have a bite to eat, and watch the surfers ride the waves.
