Power the Tower Fundraising Campaign Launches for Radio Society

You can help launch Vernon’s newest radio station.

The Vernon Community Radio Society (VCRS) is excited to announce we can begin accepting your donations. “Residents have been asking how they can help and now is the time to donate.” Says Gord Leighton, President of the Society.

Phase one of the fundraising campaign is to Power the Tower – raising the funds for the transmitter, antennae, related processing equipment, wiring, and installation. This is the first step in getting 97.9 Valley FM on the air, Vernon’s first Community Radio Station. Subsequent phases will include studios, control rooms, technical equipment rooms and offices.

The Vernon Community Radio Society is embarking on a fundraising campaign, with a target of $200,000 to launch the new community based FM radio station to serve Greater Vernon. The Society, an incorporated as a not-for profit, received a 7-year license for the new community station from the CRTC last September.

“Radio allows a connection with community like no other medium. Valley FM will give residents a voice and I encourage you to contribute to this exciting opportunity for our region.” Says Betty Selin, Honourary Chair of the Vernon Community Radio Society Fundraising Committee. “This will be a Radio station for the community, by the community.”

“We have set a goal to be on the air by October 2021, and residents of the North Okanagan can help make it happen. Our board has worked hard to get to this point and now we need the support and donations from the community. Raising enough money is the only thing standing in the way of getting Valley FM On the Air!” Says Leighton.

Individuals and businesses are encouraged to make a donation online at https://trellis.org/powerthetower or contact the Vernon Community Radio Society for more information on how you can get involved. Email vernoncommunityradio@gmail.com
