Notes From the Lumby Public Market – May 21, 2021

The second week of the Lumby and District Public Market was great, the sun shined all day, and no wind, Hooray!

While at the market, people sometimes get hungry. We have a cure for that. Vanessa and her friends Emily, (pictured) and Zach (not in the photo) will fry you up some very tasty Bannock. 

Bannock is a very traditional Native American Fry Bread. There are many variations of this Fry Bread recipe in many different cultures. 

Julie Wilding, who had been a famous figurehead at the market for over 20 years had perfected the recipe with a combination made from simple ingredients to make her famous Bannock. You can eat this Plain, with Cinnamon Sugar, or with Jam. (by the way, if you haven’t tried it yet, all of these ways are great.) 

In around 2016, Vanessa had started helping Julie out with Bannock, in 2019 Julie retired sharing her secret recipe with Vanessa, who now will feed the hungry market goers her lovely treat.

When you come to the market to have some of that great Fry Bread remember to take a look at all the other vendors we have.

  We have Jewelry, Photos, Homemade Purses, Books, Tupperware, Epicure, Garth’s Barn Wood crafts, Jams, Watkins, Music, Flowers Etc. Next week Charlotte the Popcorn lady will be back on Saturday.
