News from the OAP – March 17, 2023

It was great to see a good turnout of members at this month’s OAP meeting. This meeting introduced a few changes.

The first big change is that Lovin From The Oven is packing it in!  The group, that has been doing the meal and were instrumental in helping feed seniors in the community during the pandemic and the firefighters and evacuees during horrendous fire seasons, are retiring on a happy note.  They wish to thank all the volunteers who have put in a lot of hours and the firms that donated supplies and food. Lovin From the Oven have also donated a nice sum towards the new Bingo machine at the OAP hall.  Those who had prepaid “punch cards” will be refunded the balance on their cards.

The second big change is that “OAP Meals” will continue to provide meals once a month.  Cheryl Altwasser and a crew of new volunteers will be on board to prepare some home cooking for our seniors and local residents.  Their first meal will be March 16th with a “St. Patrick’s” meal (Irish Stew  and all the fixings). Doors open at 11:00 am with dinner at 11:30 am.  Meals are $8.00 a plate and take-out will -be available – phone 250-547-9979 to book this. Come One, Come All!!

Future meals are planned for April 6 (Easter), May 11 (Spring), and June 16 (Summer). They will take a rest for the summer – July and August.  Let’s give these people all our support.

On another note, there is a “Spring Clean Up” planned for Saturday, April 15th at 10:00 am.  If you have a few spare hours (and muscles), we would appreciate any help you can offer.  Thank You!

Don’t forget that the upcoming OAP Saturday Markets will be held on April 1st and April 29th  from10:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Another reminder is Bingo on Tuesdays, doors open at 5:30 pm.  There was a full house last week so don’t be late.  The concession is open for hamburgers and hot dogs.
