Named after a Fairy Tale

Welcome to Colleen’s Corner. This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road  or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc.  l have lived in Lumby just over 8 years you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer:  The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.

There is a small place in Felicity California called The Center of the World.

A children’s book which was called Coe: The Good Dragon at the Center of the World was written by Jacques Andre’ Istel who is the founder of the Center of the World museum. Coe The Good Dragon claimed there was a special place in Felicity California  and that was where the center of the world really was.

The book was presented to the Supervisors of Imperial County (where Felicity is located) as evidence that Felicity really is the center of the world.  May 21 1985 the Supervisors of Imperial County James Bucher, Val Blume, Louis Curiel, Luis M. Legaspi, and Abe Seabolt placed into the law Felicity the “Official Center Of The World.”

September 14 1989 the Government of France had recognized and confirmed The Official Center of the World was in Felicity California. Sending out letters to all of the government geographic institutions that were in Europe.

At this little place you will find a large 21 foot granite and glass Pyramid in the desert, which according to the book is an Honor and a Responsibility to safeguard The Center Of The World. You can visit this place during visiting hours, you can even stand on The Center Of The World, some people make wishes there as well. When you are finished visiting the Center Of The World you will get a certificate signed by the Mayor to prove you were there. Encased in the cement on the Pyramid is a copy of the law signed by the Supervisors of the Imperial County.

You will find other great monuments here as well like the famous Chapel On the Hill.

If you haven’t been there and can’t make it there you can find more information on this tiny cute place on the internet, magazines, newspapers, and blogs as it is listed in 130 countries.
