Moments in Time – Photos & Memories from the Lumby Museum – Percy Travers

Percy Travers  came to Lumby in 1966 and lived on Rawlings Lake Road.  He was often seen harvesting grass along the highway right-of-ways using a horse drawn rake.  Mr. Travers bought the Massey-Harris rake in 1946 for $65.00.  The horses were Clydesdale-Percheron crossbred and were 26 years old at the time of this 1970’s photo.  Traverse said “the horses used to work to feed me, but now I think I work to feed the horses”.  Percy was born in 1907 and passed away in 1982.  He married Irene, born in 1914.  She passed away in 1967.  Both are resting in the Lumby cemetery.  6 sons were born: Kenneth, Denis, Raymond, Leroy, Glen and Brian.  An infant daughter, Donna, lived only 6 days.
