Cottonwood Creek Logging with a load from Sprockton Creek

Moments in Time – Photos & Memories from the Lumby Museum – Louie Lundzmann – March 17, 2023

Back in the 1970’s, Ludwig “Louie” Lundzmann’s company “Cottonwood Creek Logging” was an important part of Lumby’s thriving forest economy.  When Louie and his partner Archie Schweb arrived in Lumby in 1967, they purchased G. Morrison Ltd. (formerly M&Z Logging) from George Morrison.  Along with their logging equipment, Cottonwood Creek Logging would eventually have 7 trucks on the road – most of them red. Cottonwood Creek Logging ceased operations in the early 1990’s.  Louie and Winnifred (Schweb) married in 1953.  In 1972, they purchased the former Rene & Anne Bourcet farm on Highway 6 from Henry Martin.  Louie & Winnie raised two children: Darlene and Colleen.  Louie, together with partners Lenard and Bea Hoffman, Jim Richardson and John K. would establish the former Ranchland Meat Packers in Lavington.
