Moments in Time – Photos & Memories from the Lumby Museum – April 16, 2021

Sadie (Hadley) Major 1896-1996 served the community of Lumby faithfully for over 20 years at Lumby’s St. John Ambulance First Aid Post. When the post was established in 1948, the nearest doctor or hospital care was located in Vernon and there were many times when Sadie was called upon to save lives.

She married Walter James in 1925 and had 2 sons: Howard and Gordon.  Walter died in 1925 and a year or so later Sadie married John Major.  Five children were born: George, Edyth, Edwin, Melvin and Harold. Sadie was Lumby’s Good Citizen of the Year in 1981.
