Lumby Stars U15 Team Quibell take home gold in West Kelowna tournament

The Lumby Stars U15 Team Quibell stepped onto the ice 189 days ago for their first practice, kicking off what would become a truly memorable season. This past weekend, they wrapped up their year at the West Kelowna U15 Tournament, facing teams from across the province.

The tournament began with strong wins against Juan De Fuca on Friday night and MacKenzie on Saturday morning. Later that afternoon, they battled Tumbler Ridge in a neck-and-neck match that kept players and fans on edge. The game ended in a thrilling 6-5 victory. These three wins secured 1st place in the round-robin and a spot in the semi-finals against West Kelowna. The team showcased incredible teamwork, earning a win and a shutout for goalie Liam Finlay.

In the championship game against Penticton, the team scored in both the first and second periods, maintaining the lead while Penticton managed one goal in the second. The third period saw plenty of shots on net, but neither team could break through. The game ended with Lumby clinching gold!

It was the perfect way to cap off an unforgettable season. With a record of 38 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties, this is a season the players will never forget. A huge thank you to the coaches (past and present), parents, and supporters—our “hockey family”—who made this incredible journey possible!
