Legion News – March 31, 2023

Well spring is here, although it’s not quite spring like yet. April is just about here and soon we will be doing yard work and getting ready for summer.

As promised here are the results of the Provincial Cribbage play downs. Unfortunately our members didn’t do that well. It looks like the Provincial rep’s will be from the lower mainland this year. Better luck next year. As I am writing this article John Kevener is representing our zone in the Provincial Darts Play downs. He is the singles rep, Good Luck to John.

The next events are the Ladies and Mixed Doubles pool tournament on April 1st , the House darts shoot on April 15th and the Gramma and Grampa darts shoot May 6th . Also Thursday Night darts will be going until the House darts shoot.  Shuffleboard ended on March 26th it will start up again next fall.

Last Friday 12 ladies were at the Paint and Sip event in our Legion. Christine Hurt from the Monashee Arts Counsel was their art instructor; there was lots of food there and the ladies had a good time.

At the last monthly general meeting only two non-executive members showed up for the meeting.  There is more to the Legion than just paying your membership and coming to the branch for the meat raffle, playing darts or shuffleboard. The Legion is a service club; it’s purpose is to help veterans of the Armed Forces and the RCMP, but we are still a service club. Like other service clubs, the Eagles, the Elks, the Lions we require our membership to attend meetings so we can do our business. We cannot move forward with many of the things we would like to do without the consent of our members. Also any new ideas that we could do to keep the Legion relevant to our times can be brought to the meeting. You cannot just elect an executive and let them run it for you. Please make every effort to attend the next general meeting on April 10th at 7:00 pm.
