Why Should You Include Photos In Wildfire Reporting On The BCWS Mobile App?
Did you know that you can include a photo when you submit a report through the BCWS Mobile App?
When you submit a photo through the app it helps our operational staff by providing valuable information that supports response decisions and resource allocation. These photos can provide instant and important information to our operational staff.
Photos submitted through the app are georeferenced, meaning we can tell the direction you’re facing when you take a photo and the location the photo is taken from. This is especially helpful for anyone who may be unfamiliar with the area.
The photos can also tell us;
- The fuel type
- Type of terrain
- Fire behaviour and intensity (based on smoke colour and size)
- The type of access to the fire
- The current weather on site
- Additional location information
You are encouraged when reporting wildfires to include a photo of the fire in your report to better aid in the response to new wildfires starts.

The official BC Wildfire Service mobile app is available for free download in the App Store and on Google Play.
