Joining Was Easy

Welcome to Colleen’s Corner. This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road  or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc.  l have lived in Lumby over 8 years you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer:  The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.

On February 1, 2025 Tim and I bought a membership to the OAP Hall here in Lumby, and we joined on the perfect day as later that day they had a social. The social group had dinner, games, or just chatting with everyone. What a good way to spend an evening.

For dinner they had a Loggers Stew that Connie had made, and homemade biscuits that Penny made Kudos to both of them. This great tasting, very filling meal was awesome and it was only $5.00. You can’t beat that anywhere. For the very low cost of $20.00 per year the membership is well worth it.

When we finished eating, Tim and I sat down to play rummoli with a group of people and there were other types of games happening at the same time. After a bit Tim went downstairs to play pool with a couple of the guys while I stayed upstairs and continued to play the rummoli game.

The OAP hall is located on Glencaird Street, the one with the nice red roof. This hall can be used for different things like meetings, socials, arts and crafts, dances, emergency places for evacuees from wildfires or other disasters, and winter markets during the day on Saturdays.

It was quite a fun night getting out of the house for a couple of hours on a chilly winter night without costing a lot of money. Instead of sitting at home and doing the same old boring stuff playing on the computer or watching TV, we will definitely do this again sometime.

If you are a senior (50+) and you want something fun to do, and you are not a member yet, save up your $20.00 to get the membership and maybe we will see you there sometime.
