Grateful for the Province we call home…
BC Day is often referred to as August Long weekend; but let us not forget to be grateful for Beautiful British Columbia and all the things that make it amazing. It was on August 5th, 1974 the first BC Day was celebrated, meaning this year it celebrates its 50th year of being recognized. We hope everyone was able to enjoy some of the extraordinary sights and activities our area and community had to offer this past weekend.
Here are some facts about BC:
- BC is the only province to boarder the Pacific Ocean, which accounts for 10% of Canada’s coast lines.
- BC is the fifth largest province or territory in Canada.
- BC has 40,000 Island the largest of which is Vancouver Island, which hosts our capital city of Victoria.
- 5.3 million People call BC home.
- 1050 Provincial parks are in BC and 15.4% of the land in BC is protected, which is the most of any province.
- 6 National Parks are located in BC.
- BC is 57% forest
- 370 wineries are located in BC producing 1/3 of Canadian wine.
- BC has the most ghost towns in North America from boom and bust of the gold rushes.
- A few celebrities who are from BC include: Seth Rogan, Steve Nash, Joshua Jackson, David Foster, Kim Cattrall, Brian Adams, Michael Buble, Ryan Renolds, Diana Krall, Nelly Furtado, Michael J. Fox, and Pamela Anderson.
We are lucky to live in such an amazing province with diverse cultures, landscapes and history. We hope your long weekend was enjoyable with people who you care about in the mountains, beaches, lakes, rainforest, desert or ocean.
