Did you know that every drop of water counts? Grade 2 students at J.W. Inglis have been learning about water and why we need to protect it. They discovered that although Earth has lots of water, only a small amount is clean, fresh water that people, animals, and plants can use.
Over the past few weeks, students explored the water cycle, learned where our drinking water comes from, and talked about ways people can accidentally waste or pollute water. They were surprised to learn how quickly water can be wasted by leaving a tap running or taking extra-long showers.

The Grade Two students wanted to help our community by sharing what they have learned. Each student created a water conservation poster with tips to encourage everyone to save water every day. Some of their favourite ideas include:
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth
- Take shorter showers
- Fix leaky faucets
- Only run the dishwasher or washing machine when it is full
- Use a broom to sweep the driveway rather than hosing it down
- Water gardens in the morning or night to avoid evaporation
- Put a cover on pools
The Grade Two’s strongly believe that even small actions can make a big difference. If every family saves just a little water each day, together we can help protect this valuable resource – WATER.
We encourage everyone in our community to think about how they use water and try one new way to conserve it this week. Every drop counts, and everyone can help!
“Be the drop that makes the ripple!”
