Fred’s Men’s Shed Experience
As we continue our three-part series highlighting members of the Lumby Men’s Shed, we are pleased to share Fred’s story.
For Fred, one of the biggest attractions of the Lumby Men’s Shed is its commitment to community. He enjoys being involved and appreciates organizations which make a positive difference in the lives of others. The Men’s Shed stood out because its members are constantly looking for ways to contribute, whether it’s through building projects, repairs or helping local groups and residents.
“It’s feel-good stuff,” Fred said.
The opportunity to use practical skills for the benefit of the community is something he finds particularly rewarding. Knowing that the work being done helps others gives each project a greater sense of purpose.
Beyond the projects, Fred has also found opportunities to share common interests with fellow members. Music has become one of those connections. Several members enjoy playing instruments, and informal jam sessions have become a regular part of the shed experience. Alongside the woodworking and community projects, music provides another way for members to spend time together and enjoy each other’s company.
For Fred, the appeal of the Men’s Shed is simple. It brings people together to do positive things for the community while providing a welcoming place to spend time with others.
“It’s fun,” he said.
The combination of service, shared interests and community involvement has made the Men’s Shed a meaningful part of his life and a valuable asset for the community as a whole.
