Fun Facts – Body, Nutrition, Exercise & More

Here are 15 interesting fun facts about exercise, nutrition, your body and more! These are quick and to-the-point making it easier to remember – short and impactful, to catch your attention. Whether you’re looking for motivation, a bit of science-backed knowledge, or just something fun to share, these tidbits might just change the way you think, or what you thought, was otherwise!

1. Music improves workout performance

Listening to music while exercising can improve work out performance by 15%.

2. Working out sharpens your memory

Exercising increases the production of cells that are responsible for learning and memory

3. More muscle mass = burning more fat while resting

The more muscle mass you have, the more fat your body burns while resting.

4. A pound of muscle burns three times more calories than a pound of fat

Having more muscle than fat means you can consume more calories.

5. Fat does not way more than muscle, a pound is a pound.

Muscle tissue is denser than fat tissue, meaning it packs more mass into a smaller volume.

6. You get sick less often

Exercising regularly helps boost your immune system. This means you’ll get sick less often than people who don’t exercise.

8. Workouts can improve the look of your skin

Sweat releases dirt through your pores, which reduces acne and breakouts. Workouts improve the overall look of your skin.

9. The average person walks about 7,500 steps per day.

If you stick to that average step count and live to be 80 years old, you’ll walk about 110,000 miles in your lifetime.

10. Gluten isn’t bad if you don’t have celiac disease or are sensitive to it – it is just a protein

Gluten is a complete protein with all the amino acids compared to gluten free grain proteins. While gluten is considered a complete protein it is still low in lysine and methionine, but compared to gluten free grains, it still has all 9 essential amino acids. If you don’t have celiac disease or are sensitive to gluten then you may not be getting the vitamins, fibre, and minerals you need. A gluten-free diet is not a weight-loss diet and is not intended to help you lose weight.

11. Sweat is your body’s natural air-conditioning system

Sweat is a combination of water, minerals, and electrolytes, with the key player being sodium in your body’s fluid balance and nerve function.

12. Your face turns red during and after exercise because your body is working to cool down and deliver oxygen to your muscles

This causes blood vessels to dilate and bring more blood to the surface of your skin.

13. You may lose inches and % body fat but the scale can stay the same.

Your body can lose inches and % body fat all while the scale doesn’t change, all while you are becoming more toned

14. Protein burns more calories during digestion than carbs and fats!

Protein has a higher thermic effect (TEF) than carbohydrates or fats, meaning your body burns more calories digesting and metabolizing protein. This is because protein requires more energy to break down and process compared to other macronutrients.

15. Salads first in a buffet!

This is because fibre fills and veggies are full of it, so you don’t eat as much as a whole, saving them money!
