The Charles Bloom Senior Boys and Senior Girls volleyball teams have made waves this season. Both teams finished the regular season ranked #1 in their north zone leagues. This set the stage for both teams to host their perspective zone championships on November 5th. First up were the girls who beat both Eagle Rivers and Vernon Christian in straight sets, earning themselves the North Zone Championship banner. The boys followed suit, beating King’s Christian in straight sets and winning their North Zone Championship banner.
By virtue of their top finishes in their zone, both the girls and boys earned the right to go to the Okanagan valley championships this past weekend. The girls spent the weekend in Oliver where they were one of the top ranked teams heading into the 8-team tournament. On Friday, the senior girls went 2-1 with wins over Kamloops Christian and King’s Christian. They finished the day with a loss to Immaculata. On Saturday morning the girls faced Osoyoos in a must win match to keep their hopes alive for a berth to the Provincial Championships. The girls won the first set convincingly, but faltered in the next two. The unexpected loss saw them finish in 5th place and prevented them from earning a spot in the provincial championship tournament.
The boy’s valley championship tournament was held in Kamloops. On Friday the boys went 3-0 in pool play with wins over Kamloops School of the Arts, Desert Sands & Immaculata. On Saturday the boys would face King’s Christian school in a best of 5 match to earn a spot in the tournament finals, and a trip to the Provincial Championships. The boys won a tough match in 5 set marathon and advanced to the finals. In the finals, the boys lost to a strong Kelowna Christian team. The senior boy’s second place finish at the valley championships has earned them a spot in the provincial championships! The boys will be traveling to Abbotsford for a 3-day provincial tournament on November 28-30.
Congratulations to the Senior Girls & Senior Boys, and good luck to the boys at the Provincial Championships!
