Congratulations Jessica!

The Lumby Museum is proud to announce Jessica Verhage is the recipient of the 2021 Jack Niihara Athlete of the Year Award.

Jessica’s achievements in the world of sport, academics and community  service began at Cherryville Elementary school and carried on to her high school years at Charles Bloom Secondary School where she was awarded many coach awards, MVP, Athlete of the Year and academic awards.  Jessica’s exceptional achievements and leadership in the sport of basketball have resulted in a call to join the Okanagan College Ladies Basketball Coyotes in the fall of 2021. Jessica’s career plans include a pursuing a degree in the field of Education.

Jack Niihara was a long time Lumby resident who passed away in 1961.  The Jack Niihara Trophy was first awarded in 1961 to Nellie (Zyp) Davis.
