Beating The Heat In July

With the hot weather this month has brought us, we have been hard at work to keep our seniors entertained but cool. Exercising indoors, game days, and crafts have kept us busy this month at Saddle Mountain Lounge.

Earlier this month we held our annual Intergenerational BBQ with community seniors and children from the Summer Day Camp. It’s always a fun event filled with laughter and full bellies. This year we had Jen from Floppy Shots, bring out several giant yard games including a 3-hole mini golf, yardzee, and giant jenga. There was a total of 11 stations the seniors and kids rotated through to play each one. After everyone had a turn playing, we had lunch. Barbecued hot dogs, pasta salad, watermelon, chips, and juice were on the menu. The food was excellent and so was the company. We look forward to hosting this event again next year.

Another way we were able to beat the heat this month was having a virtual zoo day. From our seats we were able to watch the giant panda at the Atlanta Zoo eat his dinner of bamboo. Then we explored the Georgia Aquarium and watched the beluga whales play. Lastly, we were off to the San Diego Zoo. There we discovered many animals playing, including baboons, koalas, penguins, and even hippopotamuses. It was fun to explore the world without leaving the lounge.

As we look forward to what August has for us, remember to stay safe outside and stay hydrated!

Whitevalley Resource Center would like to thank our sponsors, The United Way, and Interior Health.
