Artbeat – Arts & Culture from the Edge – August 28, 2020

Stronger Together art show runs from Sept 1st to 30th at the Village Gallery

It takes stamina. When it comes to fostering the arts, every village has its own challenges. Lumby and the rural areas D and E are no different. With strategic encouragement and support from the Regional District of the North Okanagan, the BC Arts Council and dedicated volunteers, the Monashee Arts Council, founded in 1999 continues to:

Educate the community about the visual, literary and performing arts. (With art shows classes, workshops and groups.)

Foster pride and understanding of the artistic heritage of our local community. (Theatrical productions, music and murals)

Sponsor cultural events. (Lumby Days, Arts and Culture Week, musical and movie events)

Promote community economic development by assisting individual artists, artisans, performers, and creators of artistic works. (Promoting the Village Gallery, grants to  the Museum, Chamber of Commerce and Lumby Live; student bursary)

Articulate and communicate the cultural needs of our community to all levels of government. (Development of the regional Arts and Culture Master Plan; negotiations around the shared use agreement for the Community Theatre)

As we all recover from the quarantine and feel our way tentatively forward, MAC has reconfigured itself to take on the operation of the Village Gallery. We are convinced that this will promote both individual artists’ and community artistic development goals.

In light of this our next show is called “Stronger Together “and is open to anyone in the community.  You can look forward to new paintings by MAC members such as Robin LeDrew, Nina Westaway , Kathy  Munts, Shirley Nash and others.  A reminder that our student membership is only $2 per year. Adult membership is $15.
