This year the date is October 7, 2020 at 5:30 pm in both Lumby and Lavington.
This year, being so radically different, I’ve faced a huge uphill battle with outside agencies assisting this year but I have established a safety plan to allow for the safe execution of the event which has been accepted.
The challenges faced by the local food banks across our service area has been unprecedented.
On top of the usual demand from families and seniors, the food banks have faced a huge demand from the families that have been laid off during the Covid 19 crisis. To say they are in a crisis position would be an understatement.
So the plan this year is to not have ANY food entering any emergency vehicles assisting and each team with have a pickup that will collect the food exclusively. Those vehicles will then transport the food to a team in Lumby which have all the safety protocols in place to accept it.
Only food at the end of driveways will be accepted and no direct person to person contact will be required. Local residents will be instructed via media to allow for a safe collection.
